Founded in 1978, the Montgomery Travelers Soccer Club is a non-profit volunteer-led organization whose mission is to promote our children's physical and emotional development through skills mastery, team building, and having fun. We strive to run programs that satisfy the range of needs of our local families, from early programs for children just sampling the sport, to travel programs that prepare youth for elite and high school play. All of our programs are professionally coached and are structured in accordance with US Youth Soccer best practices.
Coaching Mission
Our mission is to develop and maintain programs that provide our youth the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game, to develop age appropriate skills, and to progress to play advanced levels of soccer.
To accomplish this mission requires developmental goals, dedicated volunteers, committed players with potential, and adequate resources and facilities. It also requires qualified coaches who understand the game and who have the ability to teach soccer using recommended coaching methodologies and training techniques.
Success will be measured by the progression of our youth and our teams against Club level development goals by age and against appropriate levels of competition.
The philosophy of the Montgomery Travelers Soccer Club is to develop players for the long term. Development and training are focused in four areas: technical, tactical, physical and psychological. Players are encouraged to start training at younger ages and to play several positions. Training and player development must be age and ability appropriate. Coaches must continue to improve their knowledge and ability to teach by attending clinics and by obtaining advanced coaching credentials.
Club Management
The Members of the Club consist of the parents of our Travel team players. Each team has a volunteer Team Manager, who organizes the team's schedules and events, and votes on behalf of that team's Members at Club leader meetings, usually held quarterly. Annually, the Team Managers elect the Club's Board of Directors. Click here for the current Board of Directors.
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit (Tax ID 22-3831186), we manage the club's finances on a breakeven basis -- we do not generate a profit from player fees. We maintain financial reserves in the event of unexpected expenses and as a basis for future investment. We file annual reports with the IRS and State of New Jersey in order to maintain our tax-exempt status.
The only paid professionals are the coaches. All of our Board Members, Team Managers, and Volunteers receive no compensation for their work. Please help us out... we have many things to do, and most take just an hour or two here and there to accomplish. Click here for a list of volunteer positions.
